Computer Company Based On Need Not Greed

During the early 1980’s computers were becoming more popular with individuals and the internet more accessible to everyone, not just the government and academia. However, the cost of the technology was out of reach for most except business and industry and the idea of personal computers being in many homes for private use was just that, an idea.
Additionally, there were operating systems that did not allow different programming from different computer makers to run on rival machines and people were being cautious about owning a computer, mostly based on what programs were available. A small start-up company decided that a system was needed for a computer that was affordable to the masses and was compatible with more than one computer language. The company’s owners also believed it had to be built with quality in mind.
In 1982, Compaq, a derivative of the qualities of its system, compatible and quality was formed and the focus was on providing a mid-range computer system that could be afforded by most people, enabling them to use computing in the home or small business.
With the introduction of personal computers for the home, Compaq made entry into a market that had yet to explode, and it enabled more people to begin to realize the power of the computer and resultantly, the internet. Other companies began to take notice and with IBM the leader of computer power at the time being the primary language, more computers were developed by other companies that could also under this new computer language.
With the introduction of graphical interface enabling users to simply click on an icon on the screen, it brought the ease of computing several steps ahead, allowing more people the opportunity to own their own home computer without the need for years of computer education. Through this period many companies, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and IBM, among others, continued to work on advancements to enhance the experience of personal home computers.
Microsoft developed the image-based navigation that would become known as Vista, releasing its Windows 98 in 1998, changing the way many people viewed the internet. As programs were written for more productivity and education, they required more random access memory as well as permanent storage devices built into the systems. As these continued to develop, some of the first personal computers with internal memory of one million bytes were released and in short order there were programs that needed many times that amount. They also required megabytes of access memory to operate, prompting the continued development of microchips.
Through the years the development continued with more powerful machines being released on an annual basis and in 2002, Compaq merged with another electronics giant Hewlett-Packard, using that company’s development resources and the quality that both companies promised and today leads many aspects of the computer industry.
